Meteor injures about 1,000 people in Russia. PHOTOS, VIDEOS

A meteor streaked through the skies above Chelyabinsk (Russia) Friday morning, before exploding with a flash and boom that shattered glass in buildings and left hundreds of people hurt.

According to reports, 1,000 citizens are injured and more than 300 buildings are damaged.

Huge fragments of the meteor fell in two areas of the Chelyabinsk region – in Chebarkul Lake and countryside near  city of Zlatoust.

In Chelyabinsk and 3 areas of the Chelyabinsk region declared a state of emergency.

More than 8,000 policemen are responsible for public order and security in the places where meteor fragments had fallen. The Emergency Situations Ministry has warned residents of the Urals not to touch meteorite debris if they find it.
